You may know someone that has been scammed by a phone call from someone saying that they are a Microsoft Tech Support specialist and that they are calling because the person’s computer is infected.
Microsoft does not make unsolicited support calls. Neither do their preferred service vendors. So you can safely ignore these calls if they happen. THEY ARE SCAMS.
Lately we have seen a disturbing new development that is targeting Dell owners. The scammer calls and has serial numbers and other identifying information about the Dell computer they are calling about. At this time it is unclear how they have come to have this information. It is safe to say that they did not come by it legally.
In the past two weeks several customers have been hit by this sort of scam, and in one case they paid an incredible sum of money only to end up being asked for more to “finish” the job.
Please ignore unsolicited Tech-Support calls. No matter what company they may claim to be “associated” with.
