In the past week we have had several calls from folks who have gone to their computer and found that it had “automatically” upgraded to Windows 10.
Microsoft has upped the ante and now is presenting upgrade pop-ups that “seemingly” leave you no choice. The big buttons only allow you to upgrade NOW, or Later. There is tiny text that says that you may change your upgrade preferences. But the way it is worded is crafty. Some folks would not want to click that small text link either.
That small text link is your route if you don’t wish to upgrade. You can select options that will prevent Windows from downloading and installing Windows 10.
For many folks who do not use their computer daily, and have Windows set up to Automatically update, will possibly have a bg surprise the next time they use their computer.
FCBC can change all of these settings for you. We can even remove the Windows 10 Upgrade pop-ups. However, Microsoft keeps adding new updates to Windows 7 & 8 that cause some attempts to block the update to fail.
My opinion is that if you are running Windows 7 and are happy with it, you should stick with it. Windows 8 on the other hand would be best upgraded to Windows 10. It’s free (until July 29th) and a much more stable OS than 8. IT is very important to be sure that your computer (and any other printers and external drives) will run Windows 10 properly.
Upgrading older computers to Windows 10 can be tricky. If you are not comfortable trying to figure all of this out, contact FCBC and we’ll help you make the best choices. Technology should make life easier, not more confusing.
